The Royal College of Art in London has just had its 2012 graduate showcase, as a whole a truly inspirational event, however what struck me the most was this designers work. The Iris is an inspiration and an innovation to photographers anywere. I have just watched the vimeo video which you can watch here, my jaw absolutely dropped.. I thought this is the coolest thing ever. The fact that it locks onto your eye, and is controlled by your eye movements is truly remarkable. Zou also showcased the working model at her graduate show.
The Iris has some pretty standard camera features on it such as an SD Card, Wifi and the ability to recognise and tag faces. This last feature which is enabled by the Iris’s built in biometric data sensor needs the users and subjects information to be imputted before it can recognise faces, which is a nice touch, as it will avoid unwanted tagging.
I hope to see the Iris on sale soon.

eyes - binoculars / who owns thy image?
A basic outline of what I would like to take a look at:
- the worlds stance on copyright in terms of photographic material
- New Zealands stance and its Copyright Act
- The Facebook problem
- What about Reuters, AP and Getty Images
- my own personal comment on the current situation
- institutional copyright at design and arts course the world over
- Does stating on a website that you have copyright mean you ACTUALLY have copyright.
All this and more is in store. If you have anything you want to add to the discussion feel free to leave me a message, email me, or ask a question.

An interesting camera designed specifically with you astro-photographers in mind. With an inbuilt infrared sensor it can shoot space, night or day. However is it an affordable option. Is it worth the USD $1,499.00 price tag?
It has been specially designed to utilise Canon’s suite of accessories such as: EF & EF-S lens systems, remote shutter and camera controls, AC power support so you can run it off an exterior battery pack or mans, all these enable the camera to be used effectively for night shooting, especially for long exposures.
“The EOS 60Da is a testament to the constant desire to meet the needs of every customer, including those in specialized fields,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.
We can expect an increased in specialist camera’s and equipment to be hitting the market more and more. How soon will the other major players Nikon, Phase One, Hasselblad, Sony, Panasonic jump on this unique band wagon.

As a medium for discussion I find that this site lends itself well to getting down to the nitty gritty and discussing what photography is? What it does? How it is used? What makes a memorable photograph? Why we like certain styles of photography? Why is fashion photography different from say news photograph?
All these questions and more I hope to delve into with this blog.

Australian-born photographer Ward Roberts has a fascination with architecture, finding intrigue in the colors and design. “Architecture has always interested me when traveling to a new location, it’s what I tend to focus on first,” he says.
In his series Billions, he brings to life the intense chaos of a city by drawing the viewer into the complexity of the urban environment, in this case Hong Kong. Lifting us high above the streets, he creates infinite reflections of light, patterns, and shapes to create a sense of confusion about the space. Interestingly, Roberts is able to portray the energy of this rapidly growing city without the presence of a single person. As he says, “I have found that having people in the image doesn’t work into this pursuit to capture architectural perfection, as their behavior is unpredictable.” (by Katie Hosmer)

“Ochlik received his highest accolade less than two weeks before he died when he won a first prize at the World Press Photo awards for a series of photos [seen above] on the battle for Libya.”

Beautiful Macro Photographer. These snow flakes are pretty amazing, I would’ve liked to have know how he did them, how he managed to capture them in such beautiful detail before they melted. As with most of my inspiration I found this on the Colossal blog. I highly recommend this guy and his Tumblr to anyone with an interest in photography. A MUST SEE!!!!
